This month I would like to focus on the children that are closer to home for us. There are many children that are in America that are are in desperate need of a home. Actually a family. These children may not be orphans in the strictest definition of the word but they are without a family. In the United States alone there approximately 127,000 children

America's Homeless Children
I totally missed last months post with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season but I am back to touch your heart again.
This month I would like to focus on the children that are closer to home for us. There are many children that are in America that are are in desperate need of a home. Actually a family. These children may not be orphans in the strictest definition of the word but they are without a family. In the United States alone there approximately 127,000 children that are without a family. Now that is a lot of children. I know that not everyone can take a child into their home but we can be praying for these children. I Care About Orphans has a page with the number of orphans in each state Orphans in your state Now keep in mind that this was done in 2006 so the number could be greater or less.
So for the month of Januaury I would like everyone to bring the issue a little closer to home by having you pray for the orphans in your state.

More Adoption Links
I have a few more links to share for National Adoption Month.
The first is K-Love's link to Cry Of The Orphan. K-Love is doing a campin week for Cry Of The Orphan to raise awarness of what others can be doing.
K-Love is also doing Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse. Although Operation Cristams Child may not be only for orphans, it is definitly helping children in need.
And the last but not least is Focus On The Family' s Parenting Forums where Lysa TerKeurst talks about her adoption story in What Happens When Women Walk in Faith?
Check them out.

Kenya's Orphans
For my first group of orphans I have picked the county of Kenya to focus on this month. Kenya holds a special place in my heart because my best friend Rachel just return from a misions trip there so I have already been praying for the country.
In Kenya there are 1,100,000 million orphans alone. Many are orphans because of AIDS/HIV.
Please join with me this month to pray for these children!!

Here are some resources for adoption.
Many of us have heard about Steven Curtis Chapman and the lose of his daughter Maria. Well his daughter Maria was adopted from China along with his other two adoptive daughters Shaohannah and Stevey Joy. He has an organization named after his first adopted daughter Shaohannah that helps with adoption fees. Visit Shaohannah's Hope for more information.
Focus On The Family has a site supporting adoption at iCareAboutOrphans.org Also Focus On The Family's Weekend Magazine will be highlighting adoption this month.
Precious.org is the world's first and largest international adoption website and photolisting!
Food For The Hungry is probable one of the more well know organizations helping out.
That is just a few of the many places that are out there to help. I suggest going to look at them to see if there is way that you might be able to help out.

About Praying For The World's Orphans
On Focus On The Family's Weekend Magazine I learned that November was National Adoption Awareness Month. Because of this I decided to start a blog focusing on the orphans around the world that need prayer.
Here are some statistics about orphans
-There are over 143 million orphans today in the world.(what a major number)
-Every 14 seconds another child is orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
-1.2 million girls were abducted in to child sex trade last year. (if this does not break your heart as a woman what will?)
-143,000,000 orphans in the world today will spend an average of ten years in an orphanage or foster home.
-Here in the United States, approximately 510,000 are living in the foster care system.
Someday, hopefully soon, my husband and I hope to be able to do foster care and adoption. We are just waiting on God's timing.
